Coimbatore --- Infrastructure &
Facilities
State Forest Service College, Coimbatore is an
ideal setting for the pursuit of forestry training. It is housed in a
beautiful building with well furnished Classrooms, a Library, Laboratories,
Computer labs, Lecture halls and a Conference hall. Hostel facilities are
ensured at the Chandan Hostel.
Library:
The College Library can be considered as the backbone of entire
training curriculum. The Library has a fairly good collection of books,
journals & magazines on forestry on related subject areas.
There are about 7000 books on various topics and the collection is
frequently updated; National & International journals, magazines &
periodicals are regularly subscribed. Apart from this the library also has
a very good collection of audio-visual resources like CD-ROMs, Video
Cassettes & 16mm films on related subjects pertaining to the training.
The entire library collection has been computerized and the Digital Library
service initiated for online reference purpose through Intranet. High speed
Broadband-Internet facility is available on Local Area Network (LAN for
browsing and downloading articles for the curriculum needs. The Library has
launched a website on Intranet, to facilitate on line reference to the
library and also to publish the information on the current activities of
the college.
Computer:
The College has two excellent Computer Labs to impart computer
training in the Operating Systems and Application Software like WINDOWS
2003 and OFFICE 2003, Geo Media Software etc.,. The labs consist of almost
40 nos. Pentium IV- series of personal computers with rich configuration
and latest models of LCD projectors, scanner, colour and Laser printers,
inkjet printers, and Dot matrix printers. Another computer lab is in the
process of being established with all modern facilities so as to cater to
the advanced training purposes in the field.
Lecture Halls:
Two furnished lecture halls are there with a capacity of 80 seats
with provisions for using teaching aids like OHP, LCD projector, Slide
projector systems, other audio-visual Teaching aid etc. Further up
gradation is on the cards.
Lab:
There are two laboratories for the SFS trainees to complete their
practical studies in relevant subjects viz., Soil tests, Botanical studies
etc.
Besides, having kept pace with modern technological innovations, the
college is already training the officers/trainees now in the usage of GPS
instrument, GIS Software etc.
Sports:
The training here aims at overall personality development, with
emphasis on field training in addition to the theoretical aspects. Physical
training and Sports constitute an important part of the curriculum and are
compulsory. The college has sprawling grounds for outdoor sports &
games, with facilities for Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Cricket, Football,
and Hockey & Athletics. Indoor facilities include a modern gymnasium,
Table tennis, Badminton & Board games.
Hostel:
The training is fully
residential. . Residential accommodation on single occupancy basis is
available to all the trainees in the ‘CHANDAN’ hostel of the college. The
hostel has a capacity of 120 single rooms & 10 double rooms. The hostel
of this college also has common room facilities with TV, newspapers &
telephone connection and also a lunge hall for recreation purposes.
